DEPARTMENT OF MECHANICAL ENGINEERING

The Department of Mechanical Engineering came into its existence right from the inception of the institution and served as catering department to other disciplines. The discipline of Mechanical Engineering offers 3 Year Diploma in Mechanical Engg. programme with an intake of 60 students.

The department has a separate building housing the various laboratories viz : Strength of Materials, Metrology and Instrumentation, Refrigeration & Air Conditioning, CAD,Applied Mechanics , Material Science,Hydraulics and Pneumatics, Heat Engines and Thermal Engg. Lab, lecture rooms and faculty rooms. The major advanced equipments available in these labs are: Four stroke petrol engine test rig, Diesel Engine test rig, Hardness tester (Rockwell & Brinell), Impact tester, Sophisticated metrology equipment, Various hydraulic turbines (Kaplan, Francis, Pelton wheel) and pumps, Centrifugal blower & Heat transfer equipments, Universal Testing Machine (Computerized), Flaw detector, Robot etc.

In addition to this the department has a central workshop facility having various shops viz: Machine shop, Turning shop, Carpentry shop, Pattern making shop, Smithy shop, Foundry shop, Sheet metal shop, Fitting shop, Welding and CNC Machine shop well equipped with the basic infrastructure to impart technical training to the students of all disciplines. The workshop has advanced machines also viz: Universal milling machine, Gear hobbing machine, Cylindrical grinding machine, cupola furnace, welding machine, wood working machine, various power operated hand tools, lathes to give exposure and training to the students.

The department has sanctioned posts of Seven Lecturers, One Workshop superintendent, One Senior Lecturer and One Head of Department. The faculty members are experienced having expertise in Design/Thermal/Industrial/Production.

Our Diploma holders are well placed through on-campus and off-campus placement and are holding responsible positions in Industries Viz.  Harley Davidson, L&T, Appolo Tyres, Ceat Tyres, Maruti Suzuki, Micromatic Machines Tool Ltd, Indian Army, Railway, Mahindra and Mahindra etc. The campus placement has been nearly 100% for final years with reputed industries. Department of Mechanical Engineering is alive to the needs of coming times.
